About Momma
Hey there! Thanks for stopping by.
I’m Momma. And this of course, is my private oasis away from the daily grind.
I’m a 40-something Entrepreneur and Business Owner living and working in the deep southeastern United States, where folks can still be extremely prejudiced, the Bible is the law, dogs still sleep on sagging porches, trucks can still be found on blocks and several neighbors answer to the name “Bubba”. I moved here some 23 years ago from the West and am still in culture shock at times. Although parts of the south, namely larger parts, are very progressive and forward thinking, I’m not fortunate enough to live in one of those parts.
In other words, around here, I stick out like a sore thumb. My ‘Tween thinks its cool that his mom listens to Ozzy, has a pierced nose and a tatt and a penchant for pink hair.
I’ve been married to Pops for 18 years, though we did divorce briefly between ‘02 and ‘05 and are currently seperated (Recently, and yes we are trying to work on it). We are, for all intents and purposes, total polar opposites. He was born into a retired military family with money. The youngest of 5 kids born to older parents (his mother was 45 when he was born) his closest sibbling in age is in her late 50’s. He attended private schools, hung with the rich kids and went to Auburn University. The true epitomy of a “southern gentleman”, he’s very reserved, but he does have a wild side.
I was born to parents who would soon divorce, moved around probably 20 times between kindergarden and the time I left school at age 15, and was mostly snubbed by the rich kids. I don’t really have a conservative bone in my body and didn’t receive my GED until I was 38. I”m stubborn, head strong, street wise and have a some-what checkered past that I’m not ashamed of, but don’t brag about.
How the two of us hooked up, I’ll never know! I guess opposites really do attract.
We’ve got four kids, two of whom are still at home - The Teen and The Tween.
The Teen is an amazingly talented and very intellectual 16-y.old girl who plays every instrument she can get her hands on, by ear; is very grounded in her studies with a determination to attend the Auburn University School of Architecture starting in the fall of 2010 and is moody, funny and beautiful.
The Tween is currently 10 going on 25. Hes a straight A student who loves math and science. Hes determined he’ll be attending the Auburn University School of Mechanical Engeneering when he graduates in 2016, and says after he’s got his Masters in Automotive Engeneering with a minor PHD in Biology, he’s going to go back to school for a PHD In Business of some sort, or maybe law. The kid’s got moxie, what can I say? He’s my sweet, quirky, funny, talented, beautiful boy.
My oldest daughter from a previous, disasterous relationship, aka TheMommyChild, lives about four blocks away with her brood of four perfectly precious and procarious little girls who are all five and under (can we say BIRTH CONTROL?) They are, in order: Biggun, age 5; P-diddy - age 4; Kennywayne - age 3 and Marksy, age 1. They are precious and I love being a Nana, largely because when I’m done I can send them home.
All of us together with our two dogs, Beau and Max, and several other animals of the wildlife variety, live on our 4 acre mini-farm which we bought in March of ‘07 after renting for almost 16 years. Its a big switch to go from renting to owning and we’re learning a lot about budgets and repairs and emergencies. Thank god for Sears and Home Depot.
When I’m not busy working, stopping arguments between the kids, chasing dogs out of flower beds and fighting off carpenter bees, I like to blog and read blogs. I’ve been doing it for about 12 years now, in one incarnation or another. I think my first blog was actually just a series of web pages, hosted on AOL that I manually updated every single day, way back in 1995.
I blog alot about my kids, my life as a working, stay-at-home mom and things that I find disturbing or humorous. As they say, if ya don’t like what ya read here, feel free to move on, and if ya do, stick around and post a comment.
